Some say the heyday of women’s lib was in the 60’s. We say it is today.
In the US and UK of the 60’s, progressive feminists burnt the bra. In modern-day Sri Lanka, empowered women are actually piecing it together again—in a chain process that requires discipline, intricate handwork, attention to detail, team work and above all, care. Women constitute 80% of the Sri Lankan Garment Industry’s workforce and they make their presence felt--not just in business but in the society. Thanks to Sri Lanka Apparel women’s empowerment programs, women have become agents of change on a wide range of issues from children’s education & better healthcare to improved working conditions. By conducting regular programs on topics like balancing work and personal life, and offering counseling on subjects such as family health guidance, emotional intelligence, and career goals, we are helping women to lead more fulfilling lives, and empowering them to make a difference. So next time you buy a piece of clothing with a ‘Made in Sri Lanka’ label, you can be certain it was made to the highest international standards and that it was made with pride.
Going Beyond
MAS Go Beyond is a women’s empowerment program which inspires women to aim for the stars, and helps them get there--whether by improving their skills for career advancement, encouraging their extraordinary talents or helping them maintain a balance in their professional and family lives. MAS Go Beyond also recognizes and rewards excellence through quarterly initiatives and an annual “Empowered Women of the Year” awards program. The program was awarded the AAFA’s Excellence in Social Responsibility Award in 2005, and has also been recognized by INSEAD, which has based a case study upon it.
